Yes, every year, in the EU and the US alone more used motor oil is dumped than has spilled in the Gulf of Mexico! Not crude, but contaminated, heavy metal-laden, varnish-containing and acidic used oil! Most of it goes into the soil, contaminating the fresh water supply.

The technology to reduce the amount of motor oil used by as much as 80% has already been developed and proven in tens of thousands of vehicles, over hundreds of millions of miles. The problem is that most people resist adopting it because they perceive the financial benefits as being too small.
