ABOUT US
CampusCares addresses three major problems that I have noticed since coming to Boston College as a freshman this fall:
1.) The food is miserable. Cafeteria food is undeniably subpar. I have never wanted a home cooked meal so badly in my life
2.) Money is scarce. When a student leaves for college, oftentimes the simple work such as babysitting and yard work that he or she has earned through personal relationships is left behind.
3.) The neighbors don’t like us. The tensions between colleges and the surrounding communities as a result of having thousands of young students centralized in a region can prove tumultuous.
CampusCares is a semester-long program designed to strengthen the relationship between colleges and their surrounding communities while working to provide rewarding experiences and utility for each party.
The idea is that members of the community can post work that college students can help with. CampusCares then matches students with nearby households through a compatibility survey based on skills, experience, and personal expectations. After being matched, the relationship takes an intimate turn as students are adopted into family dinners for at least one night a week. In exchange for the hospitality, students help out around the house.
This program gives the student a home away from home while helping families that need it. It’s about engaging in an experience in which a family adopts a student and in doing so adopts a piece of the university or college.
I am excited about the opportunity to use Sparkseed to bring my idea to life.
Three hundred words is not a lot of space to tell about a program as dynamic as CampusCares, but I hope that you understand the opportunity this program presents for changing the college landscape.

Believe me when I say that this an idea that could redefine the college experience...
I'm really thinking about how to model this program. Wondering whether families should be matched for an entire semester to have a single intense relationship, or in weekly segments so that students can have a wealth of sources of support.
Things to think about...
