| Description: | Led and conducted progress monitoring and digital asset management (Construction daily, weekly and monthly reports as well as productivity reports).
Actively facilitated improvising and coordinating construction schedule as well as devising updates on contractor-level and owner-level schedules. Conducted measurements on progress using 3D models for the purpose of tracking progress of subcontractors as well as controlling billings. Facilitated constructability analysis and devised schedule quality control using 4D models. Generated visualized progress monitoring system with the D4AR system – a system under development and actively arranged augmented reality photos for contractor coordination. |
| Employer: | University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign |
| Position: | Research Assistant |
| Time period: | August 2006 - Present |
| Description: | Conducted research on augmented reality visualization and computer-vision based automation techniques in construction progress monitoring using time-lapse images as well as daily construction photographs.
Developed and Implemented the D4AR system – a 4 Dimensional Augmented Reality model which brings as-planned IFC models, as-built point clouds as well as site photographs in an all-integrated visual environment. Developed an automated progress monitoring model and system based on unordered daily construction photographs as well as Building Information Models. Designed and experimented a Mobile Workstation Chariot using Segway platform for pre-disaster and post-disaster data collection and visualization. Conceptualized and conducted research in sustainable construction emission monitoring and control. Initiated, contracted and conducted 5 progress monitoring case studies (Kauffman Center of Performing Arts, Kansas City, MO; Ikenberry Dining Hall and Residence Hall project, Champaign, IL; Business Instructional Facility Project, Champaign, IL; Institute of Genomic Biology as well as Nano-Technology Lab on campus of University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and Jewel Osco project in Sugar Grove, IL) ranging from $18 - $326 USD. Manually conducted progress monitoring and analyzed progress reports, as well as observed and analyzed various contractor coordination processes. Actively participated in writing several research proposals. |
| Employer: | Iran University of Science and Technology |
| Position: | Teaching Assistant |
| Description: | Assisted both instructors with the preparation of course lecture materials.
Conducted 1 hour per week lectures focusing on solving problems through discussions in classroom. Instructed 2 classes per semester on design on sediment transport reservoirs. Objectively evaluated student progress and consistently provided meaningful, well articulated feedback. |
| Employer: | University of British Columbia |
| Position: | Graduate Research Assistant |
| Time period: | September 2005 - August 2006 |
| Description: | Conducted research on assessment of collaborative decision-making in construction management’s meetings and studied possible application of a Mobile Interactive Workspace to improve decision-making; an interdisciplinary collaborative research Project between Project & Construction Management Research group in Civil Eng. Dept. and Institute of Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems.
Developed 3D/4D models for (1) A bridge in Sea-to-Sky highway construction project, and (2) Center of interactive research on sustainability facility both in Vancouver, BC. Conducted a detailed case study on design and construction of Centre of interactive research on sustainability, UBC. Attended all design coordination, managerial and pre-construction meetings and fully documented all information used and analyzed all managerial utterances. |
| Employer: | Tarahane Darya Sahel and Talan-Sazeh Design and Construction Co., Tehran-Iran |
| Position: | Project Engineer |
| Time period: | July 2003 - June 2005 |
| Description: | Conducted preliminary study and designed complementary port facilities (including a control tower and a local infirmary) located at Beheshti port, Chabahar, Iran.
Conducted preliminary study and initiated design of water distribution network, sewage and active fire-protection system located at Beheshti and Kalantari ports, Chabahar, Iran. (The project was awarded to the company and I was offered to be the project manager of this project but left the country to continue my studies. Drafted and managed a project proposal for Tehran’s municipality on “Disaster management and recovery from Earthquakes in the greater Tehran area”. |
| Employer: | Iran University of Science and Technology |
| Position: | Research Assistant |
| Time period: | June 2003 - August 2005 |
| Description: | Designed and participated in construction of a Water Flume for modeling marine structures: was a core committee member of a project initiated under Civil Eng scientific group. A set of proposal for fund raising was drafted and sent to ministry of oil, Center of Supporting Special Talents and Offshore companies. Actively participated in various negotiations to fund the project. The design is completed during this period and currently it is under construction.
Designed and implemented a computer code to investigate the phenomena of local scouring under -offshore pipelines. This research project was a joint-venture of Structure & Hydro-Structure Research Center at Iran Univ. of Science & Tech and Univ. of Western Australia. A FVM code is implemented capable of modeling diverse ocean currents, along with a sediment transport model which enables the user to visualize the local scour under offshore pipelines. Conducted a set of physical experiments on local scour under pipelines in Tehran’s Water Organization Laboratory. Drafted, negotiated and received funding for a research proposal from Iran’s Ministry of Road and Transportation. Actively participated in writing and negotiation for funding of a proposal to develop a semi-automated knowledge-based system for contractor selection for West Tehran Water Sewer Co. |

| Position: | Junior Design Engineer |
| Time period: | May 2001 - January 2002 |
| Description: | Designed and detailed a new power post building to be located on the old Noushahr port, Iran. This was a larger project in the design of Noushahr Port Sheet-pile jetty and development of the old port, including study and design of breakwater extension, shore protection wall and onshore facilities.
Designed Silo foundations for a Shell Co. logistic project located at Boushehr, Iran. (Contracted through Iranian Oilfield Services Co). Calculated and detailed excavation cuts and fills for the redesign and engineering of port facilities. (Project: Design and supervision of Qeshm’s Island’s main cargo, passenger and transportation port for 3,000 DWT general cargo vessel, 1150 m of break water develop Development of the existing port design of 500m of steel sheet piles as a new jetty, (130 m) extension of the main breakwater, onshore facilities located at Bahman port, Qeshm, Iran.) |
