  • How to Make a Video Pitch

While the video pitch is no longer required, we have been getting a lot of questions about what makes a successful video pitch.

Here are the questions you should answer, as well as a sample pitch (less than 2 minutes in length):

    QUESTIONS:

    1. Who are you?
    2. What problem are you trying to solve?
    3. Why did you choose to pursue this problem?
    4. How are you going to solve it in a sustainable way?
    5. Why should you win the Sparkseed Social Innovation Competition?

    PITCH:

Hi, my name is Mike Del Ponte, the founder & CEO of Sparkseed.

When I was a student entrepreneur, I encountered a problem that is far too common: I had to teach myself everything. How to set up a corporation, how to form a board, how to manage a team, and so on. The problem with having to teach yourself everything is you waste a lot of time reinventing the wheel, instead of accomplishing what you really set out to do, which is change the world.

I started Sparkseed to support the next generation of social entrepreneurs. To find student innovators who are bold, creative, and passionate, and give them everything they need to scale world-changing social ventures. Student innovators have a history of launching nonprofits like Kiva and Teach for America, founding companies like Microsoft and FedEx, and fueling social movements like anti-apartheid and anti-segregation. I'm committed to providing everything our student innovators need to add to this distinguished legacy.

Here's how Sparkseed works... Each year we select 10 student-led social ventures through a national competition. The ventures receive six months of high-impact support, including mentoring from entrepreneurs and executives, over $20,000 in pro-bono consulting, and $1,000 in initial seed funding.

After six months, the top three ventures are invited into Sparkseed’s portfolio where they receive ongoing support and follow-up funding up to $10,000, in exchange for a small equity stake in their ventures. This model ensures Sparkseed’s financial sustainability, as well as our commitment to the long-term success of our portfolio ventures.

Sparkseed should win this competition because we are incubating the social ventures that will become as significant as Grameen Bank and as far reaching as Facebook. We invite you to join us. Thank you.

Good luck on making your videos! We can't wait to see them. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
